The Kentucky Roofing Contractors Association introduced the Certified Contractor Program to protect homeowners from fly-by-night and storm chasing roofers.
The ongoing storms in Kentucky have increased the number of complaints received by many homeowner beware bureaus. Homeowners are turning to associations for recommendation.
Philip Bos, Public Relations Co-Chairman for the KRCA comments:
“There are no licensing requirements for roofing contractors in the state of Kentucky. The need for reputable contractors to perform repair and replacement of roofs in Kentucky has sparked the Kentucky Roofing Contractor Association to take steps to insure that their members meet certain requirements in order for them to be recommended.”
Mr. Bos continued to say, “The Certified Program requires members to carry $1,000,000 of Liability Insurance, $10,000 Bond, Proof of Business for a minimum of 1-year to include Tax ID number, physical location, local fax and phone numbers and must be recommended by their piers. They must also carry credit with the local distributors, commit to completing ten credits of continuing education with the KRCA or HBAL and provide formal safety training programs to its entire staff.” The KRCA feels these steps will protect the homeowners from being left with an improperly installed roof. It also gives them protection from the many, Here Today, Gone Tomorrow Roofers who enter our cities.
