The Kentucky Roofing Contractors Association receives 100’s of calls each winter from homeowners looking for solutions to the damage the harsh winter weather has caused on their roofs.
The ongoing storms in Kentucky have increased the number of leaks on homes in Kentucky. The Kentucky Roofing Contractors Association has compiled a list of solutions Homeowners should do to reduce the risk of developing leaks.
Philip Bos, Public Relations Co-Chairman for the KRCA comments:
“Preventative Maintenance to your roof prior to the winter snow and ice combined with some basic mid winter remedies can greatly reduce the leak risk.” “Contacting the right Certified Contractor, knowledgeable of what to look for, including providing low cost solutions is a great place to start.”
Mr. Bos continued to say, “When the snow and ice sit on your roof they can cause what is called ice damming. When the snow and ice begin to melt the dam restricts the flow of water and builds up the roof like a pond eventually finding its way into your home.” “Leaks like these can cause 100’s and sometimes 1000’s of dollars worth of damage.” “Some of the damage can go un-noticed until the moistness from the leak and summer heat creates mold inside walls and soffits.” ”The KRCA developed these simple steps to help the homeowners from costly damage that could be avoided.”
